UH Math List Server

This list was created to host discussion on the topic of creating large
disk arrays using IDE disks on Linux.

Pretty much any related issue is fair game, including choice of file
system, hardware vs. software RAID, performance tuning, etc.

Please keep specific topics that are better directed elsewhere, like "how
do I use Reiserfs in Red Hat" or "how do I grow a filesystem using LVM and
XFS" on the specific forums dedicated to those topics. Please keep any
SCSI vs IDE flamewars, or indeed any flamewars whatsoever, to yourself.
Thanks.

Various features of the Majordomo mailing list manager are discussed below.
Send all commands in the body of a message to majordomo@lists.math.uh.edu.
You may send multiple commands per message, one per line. You may also
make use of the web interface at
http://lists.math.uh.edu/cgi-bin/mj_wwwusr.

Only list members are allowed to post to this list. Other users may post
after first confirming their existence. If you desire to post from an
address other than the one you are subscribed at without confirming your
existence repeatedly, you may make use of the alias command. From the
subscribed address, send the command "alias YourAlternateEmailAddress"
(using the actual alternate email address, of course). Send "help alias"
to majordomo@lists.math.uh.edu for information.

If you prefer to receive your list mail with the subject prefixed with the
list name, issue the command "set linux-ide-arrays prefix".

If you prefer to receive your list mail with a Reply-To: header pointing
back to the list, issue the command "set linux-ide-arrays replyto".

There are other useful settings which you may change, including duplicate
suppression, acknowledgment setting, receiving copies of your own messages,
hiding your address in user listings, and going on vacation. Send "help
set" to majordomo@lists.math.uh.edu for information on them.

This list currently does not have a web-based archive. You may use
Majordomo's internal archive server to access past messages. For example,
you can send

  approve PASSWORD archive-get-digest linux-ide-arrays 10

to get a digest containing the last ten messages sent to the list.
(Replace PASSWORD with your personal password, issued when you first joined
a list at this site.) Send "help archive" to majordomo@lists.math.uh.edu
for more information.

There are currently no digests configured for this list. You can generate
your own as described above, or you can ask the list owner to create a
digest for you. If you desire digests, send a message to
linux-ide-arrays-owner@lists.math.uh.edu indicating your wishes and
including information on how often you would like to receive a digest.

Send any questions to linux-ide-arrays-owner@lists.math.uh.edu.

Enjoy the list!
